Born Free Trail

Include a visit to Elsamere Conservation Centre in your safari; it is situated on the shore of Lake Naivasha. Elsamere, a known sanctuary for nature lovers, lies in an Acacia forest on the shores of the Lake Naivasha, in Kenya's Rift Valley.

Joy Adamson and her husband George, who resided here became famous worldwide for their pioneering conservation work and their relationship with Elsa the Lioness as illustrated in her best-selling book and film "Born Free". Elsamere is a bird watcher's paradise with over 200 species of birds.

The magical early mornings are adorned with the chorus of birds' song that continues to sound throughout the day. The center is famous for its resident troop of black and white Columbus monkeys which visit it regularly; guests may sight the troop easily from the lakeside lawn.

The Museum contains a small collection of Joy's paintings and artifacts. Memorabilia from the film Born free and a range of photos documenting Joy and George's work with wildlife are also displayed. Guests enjoy lunch at the center then visit Hell's Gate National Park.
